In an exciting development for e-commerce businesses, Google has announced the launch of its latest tool, Product Studio. This innovative solution leverages generative artificial intelligence to empower merchants with the ability to create captivating product imagery effortlessly.
Product Studio will be seamlessly integrated into Merchant Center Next, Google’s comprehensive platform designed to help businesses effectively manage their product presence on the search engine. With this powerful new tool, merchants can now produce visually compelling images at no cost, allowing them to maximize the value of their existing product visuals without the need for costly and time-consuming photoshoots.
One of the standout features of Product Studio is its versatility. Merchants can now showcase seasonal variations of their products with ease. For example, a skincare brand could request an image of their product “surrounded by peaches, with tropical plants in the background,” instantly capturing the essence of their summer collection.

This groundbreaking tool also offers merchants the ability to remove distracting backgrounds from their product images. By simply eliminating complex or cluttered backgrounds and replacing them with a clean, plain white backdrop, merchants can ensure that their products truly shine and captivate potential customers.
Furthermore, Product Studio has the capability to enhance the quality of small or low-resolution images. Without the need for reshoots, merchants can now transform less-than-perfect visuals into high-quality representations that truly showcase their products’ unique features and details.

Initially, Product Studio will be available to merchants in the United States within the next few months. Additionally, businesses utilizing the Google and YouTube app on Shopify will also have access to these powerful image creation features, further extending the tool’s reach and impact.
During a briefing with reporters, Matt Madrigal, Vice President and General Manager of Merchant Shopping at Google, emphasized the role of advanced technologies like artificial intelligence in revolutionizing Google Shopping products. With Product Studio, Google aims to bring these cutting-edge technologies directly into the hands of small and medium-sized businesses, empowering them to compete in the dynamic e-commerce landscape.
In addition to Product Studio, Google also announced improvements to the listing process on Google through Merchant Center Next. Gone are the days of manually inputting product information. The platform will now automatically populate a merchant’s product feed with data detected from their website, streamlining the setup process and saving valuable time for businesses. Merchants will have the option to review and modify the data pulled in or disable this feature according to their preferences.
To provide merchants with deeper insights into their performance, Google is consolidating all insights reports into the Performance tab. This centralized view will allow merchants to analyze their best-selling products, monitor competitor visibility, and gain valuable insights into customer engagement with their local businesses on both Search and Maps.
For merchants managing both online and brick-and-mortar stores, Merchant Center Next will provide a comprehensive view, simplifying the management of product inventory across different channels.
The rollout of Merchant Center Next has already begun for new users, and Google plans to gradually upgrade smaller businesses over the coming months. The complete global rollout of the enhanced platform is expected to be completed by 2024. Merchants will receive notifications as soon as the new experience becomes available for them.
Google’s introduction of Product Studio and the enhancements to Merchant Center Next demonstrate the company’s commitment to equipping merchants with the tools and insights necessary to thrive in today’s competitive e-commerce landscape. By harnessing the power of generative AI, Google is empowering businesses of all sizes to create visually stunning product imagery, streamline their operations, and make data-driven decisions to drive growth and success.
